What is Financial Life Planning?

Think of your financial life as the raw materials that go into building your financial home.
Now, visualize these materials lying around, unassembled, uncoordinated.

  • Investments     Health Care     Heirs
  • Wills     Insurance     Charity
  • Trusts     Living Expenses     Retirement Plans
  • Social Security     Education     Annuities
How will you put them together in a way that will build a strong, enduring structure that will shelter you, your spouse, and your children both now and in the future?

This is where we come in. We are Lof Lopez and Associates, LLC. We are your architect and your general contractor. We work with you to understand your needs, draw up your financial blueprints, and construct your home with a lifetime warranty.

When you work with Lof Lopez, you don't have to know all of the questions. That's our job! We identify potential risks to your Financial Life Plan and work with your other professional advisors to address them. We also monitor your financial home in order to keep it running smoothly for years to come.

Why Use a Certified Financial Planner®?

A Certified Financial Planner® Helps You:

•Set realistic financial and personal goals.

•Assess your current financial health by examining your assets, liabilities, income, insurance, taxes, investments, and estate plan.

•Develop a realistic, comprehensive plan to help meet your financial goals by addressing financial weaknesses and building on financial strengths.

•Put your plan into action and monitor its progress.

•Stay on track to meet a changing environment.

The Four E's to Becoming a Certified Financial Planner® Professional:

Education - Most CFP® professionals have earned a four-year college degree in finance related areas. CFP® practitioners develop theoretical and practical financial planning knowledge by completing a comprehensive course study at a college or university offering a financial planning curriculum registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.

Examination - CFP® practitioners must pass a comprehensive two-day examination that tests their ability to apply their financial planning knowledge in an integrated format. The CFP Board's exam covers the general principles of financial planning, insurance planning and risk management, employee benefits planning, investment planning, income tax planning, retirement planning and estate planning. It is also necessary for every CFP® certificant, once certified, to complete a re-certification every two years.

Experience - CFP® practitioners must have a minimum of three years' experience working in the financial planning process prior to earning the CFP® mark. As a result, CFP® practitioners have demonstrated a working knowledge of counseling skills in addition to their financial planning knowledge.

Ethics - CFP® practitioners must pass an ethics review and agree to abide by the CFP Board's Financial Planning Practice Standards and a strict code of professional conduct, known as the CFP Board's Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility. The Code of Ethics states that CFP® practitioners are to act with integrity, offering professional services that are objective and based on client needs.

Not every financial planner is a Certified Financial Planner® professional. You and your family deserve nothing less than to work with a CFP® professional in pursuing your Financial Life Plan.

Financial Life Planning for Women

When you think about your Financial Life Plan, what concerns do you have?

o Not being able to take care of yourself and the people you love?
o Not having enough money in retirement?
o Having to rely on someone else to support you? Lack of autonomy?
o Properly transferring wealth to heirs?
 o Having excessive debt burden?
o Not having a trusted listener when a partner is gone?
o Effectively managing an inheritance and/or death benefit?

Your Financial Life Plan encompasses many different areas in addition to asset management and it changes as you progress through life.

At Lof Lopez we use a complimentary three step process to help you develop your Financial Life Plan to assure that your concerns are addressed and resolved and that the consequences of planning are positive.

The first step is to listen to you, get to know you and identity your concerns. We then summarize our findings and make written Plan enhancement recommendations for your use.

The second step is to compile a detailed, written financial plan that addresses your concerns and highlights areas of opportunity for you future financial well-being. We do this in a working session with you.

Finally, we meet with you to explain our investment process and philosophy.

In addition, we have structured our service offering to provide a dedicated focus on Financial Life Planning for Women. Kelly Gudenkauf and Stephanie Mayoral assure that the woman's perspective is addressed in our client relationships. We have women only events and have a Women's Advisory Board.

Emerging Wealth

These are people who are into their careers, raising families and experiencing their earning potential. They are starting and/or building their Financial Life Plans. They are occupied with making decisions regarding saving for retirement, providing for children's education, developing wills and trusts, protecting families with life insurance and evaluating a host of other items that will directly impact the well being of their families both now and into the upcoming stages of their lives.

They also are at the point where they are considering obtaining the services of a financial advocate - someone to guide them through and advise them on setting up and running their Financial Life Plan and deal with today's economic realities. This is what we do and we do it well. And we do it on your schedule, not ours.

Family Stewardship

In the world of Financial Life Planning, Family Stewards are people of all ages who accept the responsibilities of assuring the financial health for their families whether that is spouses and children, grand children and/or parents. Family Stewards guide, facilitate, influence, direct and implement. Family Stewards are compassionate leaders who help themselves, family members and family households address financial life-cycle needs - education, retirement, aging, investment management, debt management, estate planning (wills, trusts, etc.), insurance protection, etc. etc. etc. Successful Financial Life Planning lets Family Stewards provide and care for their families.

Where does Lof Lopez fit into this picture? We develop all areas of your Financial Life Plan. Our team works with Family Stewards to plan for every aspect of a family's financial life-cycle - not just investment management. Here is an example:

Your Final Event

Are your affairs in order for when either you or your spouse are no longer here? Have the actions of all of your trusted advisors (attorney, accountant, insurance agent, financial advisor) been coordinated to assure that your spouse, family, extended family will be treated as you desire when you are gone? Are your insurance and annuity beneficiaries consistent with you desires?

We at Lof Lopez believe that all of your advisors should be on one agenda when that time comes. To that end we coordinate The Ultimate Dress Rehearsal for our clients. To find out more, please view the following video.
